Steve McQueen biopic on the way

Producers Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters are developing a Steve McQueen biopic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The team have acquired rights to the Marshall Terrill’s biography Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel.

The new film will primarily focus on McQueen’s Hollywood career, which began in 1956 when the Indiana native got his break in the pic Somebody Up There Likes Me. Cerenzie and Peters will produce the movie, along with Brian Oliver and Chuck Rock of Arthaus Prods.

According to reports, the book also discusses McQueen’s offscreen passions, which included motorcycles, fast cars and drugs. The project will examine his three marriages, including to Neile Adams, his stormy relationship with Ali McGraw, and his widow Barbara Minty, as well as deal with his battle with lung cancer.

A director and star have yet to be chosen for the project.
