TV going back to the Streets of San Francisco

CBS is producing a contemporary remake of the classic 1970s cop drama The Streets of San Francisco, featuring two cops of different generations working together. The new show will be produced and co-written by Sheldon Turner, who wrote the script for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and The Longest Yard remake.

Michael Douglas and Karl Malden played the lead detectives in the original show, from 1972 to 1976, which was set during and right after the Vietnam War. The new spin, according to reports, will model the two lead actors after presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama, and mirror the original, but taking place during the current Iraq War.

Sheldon told The Hollywood Reporter,

The times are very similar – it was the Vietnam War in the 1970s and the Iraq War now.

According to the story, one detective wants to be active and believes in rehabilitation, while the other doesn’t quite believe in rehab and believes that the enemy is the enemy.
