I have an update on the Usher film projects that are being prepped. Lion’s Gate Films has signed the music star to appear in Dying for Dolly, while MGM is in negotiations to line up another film for him, entitled Step in the Name of Love.
Emmanuelle Chriqui is the female lead in Dying, and Ron Underwood will direct the film. Chazz Palmintieri will also star. The movie started production on December 12th.
In the Chanel Capra written film, Usher will play the loyal right-hand man to a Mafia don, who’s been assigned to watch over the don’s daughter. What dad doesn’t know is that the bodyguard and his daughter have long nursed a mutual crush.
For the MGM project, Craig Brewer (currently finishing post on Hustle & Flow) will rewrite Step in the Name of Love as an urban Saturday Night Fever that Usher would star in and produce, if that project happens.
