Will Smith’s Overbrook to produce Harlem Hellfighters movie, plus author to sign copies at upcoming event

Variety reports that Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to World War Z author Max Brooks’ graphic novel The Harlem Hellfighters for Overbrook Entertainment to adapt into a film. According to the report, Jada Pinkett Smith’s younger brother Caleeb Pinkett, and James Lassiter will produce The Harlem Hellfighters movie for Overbrook, with author Brooks writing the screenplay.

The Harlem Hellfighters will be published next month, giving a fictionalized account of the 369th Infantry Regiment, an African-American regiment from Harlem, New York, that fought in France during World War I. The unit went on to become one of the most decorated regiments of the war. The graphic novel was illustrated by Canaan White, whose work you can view on Deviant Art at caananwhite.deviantart.com.

Fans of author Max Brooks should also take note that Brooks is scheduled to appear at a book signing and discussion for the graphic novel The Harlem Hellfighters on Wednesday, April 9th, 2014, at 7PM.
