Former Dancing With the Stars panelist Julianne Hough is in final talks to star opposite Tom Cruise and Mary J. Blige in New Line’s adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages, according to THR. Adam Shankman is directing the project from a script by Chris D’Arienzo.
Rock of Ages tells the story of a small town girl (Hough) who comes to Hollywood for the 1980s music scene and is nearly destroyed by it. The would-be star catches the eye of Cruise, who plays an arrogant and charming star at the top of his career. She rejects him and is ultimately forced to become a stripper before finding true love.
According to the report, Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand are also in discussions for big roles in the film, which is set to begin shooting in May.
