Hanna was one of the more interesting films that previewed during New York Comic Con this past October. An espionage thriller directed by and starring Award nominees and winners, including Oscar-winning director Joe Wright (Atonement, The Soloist), Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, and Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Atonement) in the title role, certainly raised a few of my eyebrows.
In the suspense thriller Hanna, a 14-year old assassin (Ronan) is trained by her father (Eric Bana), an ex-CIA operative, in the wilds of Finland, to be a cold-hearted killing machine. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.
Hanna, based on a story by Seth Lochhead, and a script by Wright, along with, is due in theaters on April 8, 2011.
