ContentFilm revealed today that Malin Akerman – who’ll next appear opposite Katie Holmes in this week’s The Romantics – has joined the cast of The Numbers Station, where she’ll appear opposite previously announced two-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke. The Candidate helmer Kasper Barfoed is attached to direct the project.

The Numbers Station is described as a fast-paced action thriller combining suspense, twists and turns, and is teasing an explosive and mind-blowing climax. Hawke plays Emerson, a disgraced black ops agent tasked with a dead-end job protecting a woman named Katherine (Akerman), the code operator for a small CIA broadcast station in the middle of the Nevada desert. Emerson’s mission is simple: Keep Katherine safe and secure. When the station comes under attack, their priority is to make it out alive.

Akerman, who also starred in The Proposal, Watchmen, and Couples Retreat, will also appear in The Bang Bang Club with Ryan Philippe and Taylor Kitsch, which premieres next week at the Toronto International Film Festival, while Hawke was recently seen in the vampire thriller Daybreakers and Brooklyn’s Finest. The actor also directed the critically acclaimed off-broadway play, A Lie Of The Mind, and is currently in production on The Woman In The Fifth.

The Numbers Station was written by F. Scott Frazier, and is due to start principal photography in early 2011. The film is being produced by Sean and Bryan Furst (Daybreakers, The Matador, The Girl in The Park, The Cooler), along with Ethan Hawke, with the company’s Ryan Hawke on board as executive producer.
