Robert Zemeckis may have found his Beatles for Yellow Submarine remake

Actors Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz and Adam Campbell are in talks to portray members of The Beatles in Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming remake of Yellow Submarine, according to THR’s HeatVisionBlog. Disney is the studio behind the project.

The original 1968 animated film was based on the Beatles music and featured a storyline wherein a soldier called Old Fred meets up with the Beatles and travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland.

Zemeckis, who also wrote the script, will again be using 3D performance-capture technology, as he did with his other recent projects The Polar Express, Beowulf and 2009’s A Christmas Carol. Beatles tribute band the Fab Four will be motion-captured for the musical performance sequences, however actual Beatles music will be utilized for the 16 songs used in the film.

According to the report, Kelly will play John Lennon, Serafinowicz will play Paul McCartney, Elwes will play George Harrison, and Campbell will be Ringo Starr.
