Notorious director George Tillman Jr. may go Faster for The Rock’s next action film

CBS Films is looking to George Tillman Jr. (Notorious) for the director’s chair of the action drama Faster, which Dwayne Johnson is attached to star, with production set to begin in early 2010, according to Variety. Phil Joanou, who helmed Johnson’s Gridiron Gang, was expected to direct the upcoming film, but dropped out several months ago.

In Faster, written by Joe and Tony Gayton, Johnson will play an ex-con bent on avenging the murder of his brother. The film is a co-production between CBS Films and Sony Worldwide, and will ramp up production in January of 2010.

Joe Gayton, who will executive producer Faster, wrote the 1983 Gene Hackman war film Uncommon Valor, and Tony Gayton penned Val Kilmer’s The Salton Sea.
