Dark Hero Studios partners David Hayter and Benedict Carver are teaming up with Pandemonium’s Bill Mechanic to turn the comic Deadworld into a feature film franchise, according to Variety.
Hayter – who wrote scripts for X-Men, X2 and Watchmen – will pen the screenplay, and will produce, along with Mechanic and Gary Reed, who wrote and co-created the comic.
Deadworld picks up four months after the typical apocalypse where humans are overrun by flesh-eating corpses, and the Dead have taken over the planet, with humans few and far between.
Production on the first feature is set to begin next year.
Mechanic is also working on Ness, an Ehren Kruger-scripted graphic novel adaptation with David Fincher and Matt Damon attached.
