See the first glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as classic gumshoes Holmes and Watson

USA Today has posted a gallery of images from the upcoming Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes film.

In Ritchie’s action-packed reboot of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective series, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law play Sherlock Holmes and his trusted partner Watson.

Shots include a peek at Rachel McAdams as the brilliant con-woman Irene Adler, along with a first look at Mark Strong as Holmes’ nemesis, Lord Blackwood.

Ritchie says about messing with such an iconic figure:

“I didn’t really think of the downside as much as I thought about the upside,” the filmmaker says. “I was a Holmes fan when I was a child. They are the first stories I remember. I also liked the approach the studio was coming at. To me, it was the perfect segue from small independent films to something more ambitious and quintessentially English. So I’ve got my cake and I can eat it.”
