According to an interview on MTV’s Splash Page, Iron Man writers are throwing around the idea of making The Hulk the villain in the highly anticipated The Avengers epic. According to story, the Iron Man scribes are pushing for The Avengers’ ultimate superhero team to battle a fellow hero, rather than a straight up villain. Writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby said they would be all for making Hulk the baddie in the film, which is due in July of 2011. “When you have a team of powerhouse superheroes like Iron Man, Ant-Man, Thor and Captain America, you can’t just have any old villain for them to take down” Ostby said. Fergus added, “You don’t want like 10 super-badass good guys fighting together. Where’s the fun in that? Let’s break it off a little.

Zak Penn is writing the screenplay, so let’s see if he takes their advice or not. As it stands, The Avengers are set to rumble with Thor’s evil brother Loki and the Masters of Evil. So however you look at it, 2010 and 2011 will be very busy years for Marvels’ fabled heroes, with Iron Man 2 due on April 30, 2010, again directed by Jon Favreau; Thor due a few months later on July 16, 2010, with Kenneth Branagh attached to helm; Captain America due on May 6, 2011. These films all lead up to The Avengers movie, which is due out just six weeks after Captain America, on July 15, 2011.

Also, there is a clip posted online being billed as a scene from the upcoming Captain America film. It’s titled Death of a Hero, and features Captain America kicking ass, then being tied up and shot. The credits say it’s a film directed by Jose M. Gomez and that it’s due in 2009? Only Captain American, currently titled The First Avenger: Captain America, is being directed by Nick Cassavetes, and isn’t due in theaters until 2011. But the clip looks pretty good though.

Film Fetish Trivia: Aceshowbiz reported back in September 2008 that Eva Longgoria is rumored to be eyeing the role of The Wasp, who is one of the founding members of the Avengers. They also reported that Will Smith may have been offered the role of Captain America, after Miracle at St. Anna actor Derek Luke apparently mentioned it during an MTV News interview.
