According to The Hollywood Reporter, Xzibit is in final negotiations to join The Rock in Columbia Pictures’ upcoming sports drama Gridiron Gang. Xzibit will play Malcolm, assistant coach of the team in the movie.

Gridiron Gang is Inspired by a 1993 documentary that follows a probation officer (played by The Rock) who forms a football team of juvenile inmates. The players overcome huge obstacles, gain self-esteem and discipline and, in one season, go from rough-neck beginners to contenders for the division title. Phil Joanou is directing.

Filming on Gridiron is scheduled to begin at the end of May at Camp Kilpatrick, a juvenile detention facility in the Santa Monica Mountains.

This is one of many projects in the works for the busy Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He is also working on the Doom movie, which is in post-production, Spy Hunter, which is in pre-production, Ride Along, Johnny Bravo and Instant Karma, a comedy adventure about a safecracker who dies and is reincarnated as a series of animals.
