Hideo Nakata, whose film, The Ring Two recently opened in theaters, has signed a contract to direct a redo of the Japanese horror hit The Eye for Paramount pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original Japanese horror revolves around a blind girl who gets a cornea transplant in order to restore her vision. However, she gets more than she bargained for when she realizes she can also see ghosts. Some of these ghosts are down right unfriendly, too. So she embarks on a journey to find the origins of her cornea and reveal the history of the previous owner of the cornea.

The Eye is a horror hit franchise in Japan, with a third installment being planned there.

Vertigo Film’s Roy Lee and Doug Davison are producing the U.S. version, along with Peter Chan, who produced the original in Japan.
