British singer Jamelia is being lined up to become a Bond girl, according to the Daily Star, a British tabloid.

Jamelia is rumoured to be starring in Casino Royale, the 21st movie in the Bond series, due in 2006, after impressing the film’s producers. She has apparently beat off competition from model Victoria Silverstedt and Aussie actress Holly Valance.

Martin Campbell is the latest director attached to the film, since Sean Connery and Quentin Tarantino both expressed interest in directing the project. Tarantino had said at the Cannes film festival 2004 that he wanted to film Casino Royale as Ian Fleming wrote it. Tarantino backed Pierce Brosnan for Bond and Uma Thurman as the main Bond Girl.

The Ian Fleming book was originally filmed for television and then again in 1967 as a big-screen spoof, with Peter Sellers as James Bond, since Sean Connery was unavailable.

In the film, James Bond must thwart a dangerous Russian spy from winning a baccarat game worth millions.
