Paramount eyes three actresses to get ‘One Shot’ against Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise is currently prepping One Shot, a Paramount-Skydance adaptation of a 2005 Lee Child crime thriller novel. Valkyrie writer Christopher McQuarrie is attached to direct the film from a script he wrote with Josh Olson, and according to THR, he and Paramount execs were reading at least three actresses for the female lead yesterday: Hayley Atwell (Captain America), Alexa Davalos (Clash of the Titans, Defiance, The Mist, The Chronicles of Riddick) and Rosamund Pike (Made in Dagenham, Barney’s Version, An Education).

One Shot centers on the character Jack Reacher, an ex-Army cop who gets sucked into the mystery surrounding the arrest of a sniper accused of killing five random people in a massacre. The female role is a tough lawyer and the daughter of a discrict attorney.

The studio is eyeing a fall shoot in Pittsburgh for One Shot, with a release date of February 8, 2013.
