Could Avatar’s world ever exist?

Director James Cameron is about to find out.

Fox Home Entertainment, in conjunction with The California Institute of Technology and Home Tree Initiative, will host a special presentation and panel about the science and technology behind cinema’s box office behemoth – Avatar. The discussion will include the film’s important environmental messaging and the Home Tree Initiative, the worldwide effort to plant one million trees by the end of 2010. The panel to feature world-renowned environmental scientist Dr. Jess F. Adkins and planetary scientist Dr. John P. Grotzinger. Dr. Robert Hurt, visualization scientist for NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope, will moderate.

James Cameron will present select film clips from Avatar on HD monitors. Panelists will also discuss the creation and development of Avatar, new technologies developed to create the film, and the story’s powerful environmental messaging and impact.

The Avatar event will take place on Tuesday, April 27th, starting at 8:00pm, at The California Institute of Technology Beckman Auditorium, located at 332 S. Michigan, in Pasadena, California.
