Sony announced yesterday that it will release the fourth Spider-Man film in 3D on July 3, 2012, according to THR. The studio also ditched the one-time title of Spider-Man IV and has branded the project “untitled”, adding to speculation that the new film will be a reboot of the Marvel character’s origin story.

Sony had previously confirmed that it would recast the next Spidey film and supplant Tobey Maguire in the title role, and also swap directors, replacing Sam Raimi with (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb, who will shoot from a script by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac).

Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin are returning to produce the new project for Columbia and Marvel Studios.
