Empire spoke to veteran X-Men producer Lauren Shuler-Donner, who’s had a hand in every X-Men film to date – along with all developing X-Men projects – during the DVD and Blu-ray promotional junket for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Shuler-Donner revealed just what’s on tap for the Mutant world, including tidbits on X-Men: First Class, Deadpool and more.

Regarding Wolverine 2, Shuler-Donner confirmed the storyline will bewhat producers wanted for the first Wolverine film, before Fox’s Tom Rothman opted for an origin story. She also said that Wolverine will be fighting in a different style than we’re used to seeing on film, including a defense against an Asian stick-like weapon. There’ll also be samurai, ninja, katana blades, extreme fighting, and other forms of martial arts thrown into the mix.

On X-Men: First Class, she says:

“We want it to be like the recent, darker Potters. It should not be a kiddie movie: we’re in the X-Men world so you can’t suddenly change the tone. The First Class comics are really fun — they’re funnier than any other comics I’ve read. Basically in each one the kids are fighting strange villains, sometimes it’s aliens, sometimes it’s monsters. I want to get a flavour of that world.”

On Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, the producer doesn’t see any issue with the actor moonlighting as Green Lantern, siting Harrison Ford as an example of an actor who successfully appeared in two major franchise leads in the same time frame: Stars Wars and Indiana Jones.
