There is a free screening of the horror film Paranormal Activity happening this Thursday at midnight, in New York City, at the Landmark Sunshine Theater, on E. Houston Street in SOHO.

Harry Knowles of AINT IT COOL says “So scary! Just when you thought it was safe to close your eyes… Good luck going to sleep!”

In order to attend, you must RSVP (quickly) at www.paranormalmovie.com/newyork.

Also, apparently Paranormal Activity is one of the first studio movies, who’s release is being decided by us, the general public. You can go to www.eventful.com/paranormalactivity to “demand” Paranormal Activity open in your town.

Paranormal Activity tells the story of a young, middle class couple that moves into what seems like a typical suburban “starter” tract house, and become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep.

The film is being released by DreamWorks and Paramount and according to its Facebook page, it is set to be released on September 25th, 2009. It’s not clear if the release will be tailored around the web responses on Eventful or not.

Paranormal Activity stars Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Mark Fredrichs, Amber Armstrong and Ashley Palmer, and was written and directed by Oren Peli.
