Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver have contracted Kung Fu Panda co-director John Stevenson to make his live-action debut with the film Masters of the Universe, according to Variety.

The original story follows He-Man – played in a 1987 film by Dolph Lundgren – a prince who transforms into a warrior to become the last hope for a magical land being ravaged by an evil villain named Skeletor (played by Frank Langella in the same film).

Justin Marks, who penned versions of the upcoming martial arts adaptation Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and the action horror Hack/Slash, wrote the first draft of the script.

Mattel is also working on its Hot Wheels film project with Warners’ and Silver.
