Natalie Portman has a Vendetta

I have seen this around too much not to at least mention it. Natalie Portman is very close to inking a deal to star in the Wachowski Brothers next major project, V For Vendetta. The Brothers wrote this script about two and a half years ago, in between developing the Matrix sequels. It was even reviewed in some script-writing magazines. It got very favorable reviews, which is to be expected. From what I’ve read of their work (Matrix and Assassins), they are excellent writers.

James McTeigue, who just wrapped efforts for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith, will direct the film, with Andy and Larry Wachowski producing, along with Joel Silver, through his Warner based Silver Pictures.

The film is based on the original graphic novel written by Alan Moore. The story of V For Vendetta involves an alternate future in which Germany wins World War II and Great Britain becomes a fascist state. A terrorist freedom fighter known only as “V” begins a violent guerrilla campaign to destroy those who’ve succumbed to totalitarianism, and recruits a young woman he’s rescued, or possibly kidnapped, from the secret police to join him.
