Dimension Films has purchased the script Wichita from first-time writer Scott Milam for Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II and upcoming Saw III) to direct under his two-picture deal with Dimension Films and Twisted Pictures. Mark Burg and Oren Koules are set to produce the thriller through Twisted Pictures, the genre production arm of Evolution Entertainment. Twisted Pictures produced thrillers Saw, Saw II, Saw III and the upcoming Universal release of Silence. The announcement was recently made by The Weinstein Company co-chairman, Bob Weinstein and the executive vice president and head of production for Dimension Films, Richard Saperstein.

While the specifics of the storyline are being kept under close wraps, Wichita tells the story of an unthinkable crime that devastates the lives of eight unsuspecting people.

Saperstein stated, “We are excited to be working with Darren and Scott in bringing this compelling story to the big screen.”

Bousman stated, “This movie will scare people like never before. I am eager to integrate this new slant on horror with a company known for its revolutionary genre films.”

Milam stated, “It’s a dream come true to be working with Darren and Dimension on this project and I can’t wait for everyone to see what they’re going to do with this. What’s terrifying about this story is that it’s based in reality and could happen to anyone. It’s a slice of Americana gone bad and getting worse.”

Saperstein and Matthew Stein, senior vice president of production, and Alex Franklin, director of development and production, will oversee the project on behalf of Dimension Films. Brad Kaplan from Evolution Entertainment was the driving force behind getting the script to Darren Lynn Bousman and ultimately to Dimension Films.
