Edward James Olmos talks Green Hornet feature film

In an interview with the L.A. Times, Edward James Olmos revealed, among other things, the role he’ll be playing in Michel Gondry’s (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) upcoming The Green Hornet feature film. His character’s name is Michael Axford, a reporter for the Daily Sentinel, the newspaper run by Britt Reid’s (Green Hornet’s) father James.

“We’re the backbone of the paper…Things go awry, and I end up having to try to sustain what’s going on in our lives. And of course the Green Hornet doesn’t make it any easier. I don’t want to give anything away.“

Olmos also confirmed his excitement surrounding the production, despite its casting and production issues, saying:

“I’ll put it to you this way — it’s quite a fun journey,” Olmos said. “It’s my first time doing this kind of a movie. Blade Runner is the only thing that comes close to this. I’m having a lot of fun. People are really going to like what we’ve done. …”

Joining Olmos in The Green Hornet is Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, Jay Chou as Kato – the character made famous by the late Bruce Lee – and Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet, who was played by Van Williams in the 26-episode 1960’s series.

The Green Hornet will be in theaters on December 17, 2010.
