First trailer and 4 character posters for Keanu Reeves’ 47 Ronin

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer and 4 character posters for Keanu Reeves’ big budget version of the historical action tale 47 Ronin, which hits theaters on December 25th, 2013. While there’s an overuse of special effects in the film, I’m looking forward to 47 Ronin a bit more than Man of Tai-Chi, Reeves’s directorial debut, although I haven’t watched much footage (other than a teaser trailer) from Man of Tai-Chi.

47 Ronin fictionalizes one of Japan’s most legendary samurai stories, centering on a group of 18th century warriors who aim to avenge their master’s death. Reeves, in his first starring role in a tentpole project since The Matrix trilogy, plays the lead among a primarily-Japanese cast.

Carl Rinsch directed 47 Ronin, which also stars Rinko Kikuchi, Hiroyuki Sanada, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Tadanobu Asano, Yorick van Wageningen, Kô Shibasaki, Togo Igawa, Rick Genest, Haruka Abe, Yuriri Naka, Akira Koieyama, Jin Akanishi, Chillie Mo, Junichi Kajioka, Aaron Ly and Derek Siow.
