Bryan Singer confirms he’s directing X-Men: First Class at Avatar premiere

Below is a video clip from last night’s MySpace Avatar red carpet live webcast, Bryan Singer mentioned that he just signed a deal to direct X-Men: First Class.

According to an early report on AceShowbiz, X-Men: First Class could leave the X-Men Dark Phoenix storyline untouched. In an interview at New York Comic Con, the film’s writer – Gossip Girl and Chuck creator Josh Schwartz – suggested that possibility. He explained that he thinks “The Dark Phoenix storyline is probably the high point of the comics’ storytelling,” and noted, “they did that. So we’ll find more fertile soil somewhere else.”

Aside from the fact that Josh Schwartz will pen the script and Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg will serve as the producers, details of X-Men: First Class are being kept under wraps. The report speculates that the feature film could be focused on either certain X-Men characters like Cyclops in their teenage years or on some of the students attending the mutant school already introduced in the X-Men movies.
