Dark Knight producer goes through Damascus Gate

Dark Knight producer Charles Roven has announced plans to adapt the political thriller Damascus Gate for Sony, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on a book by Robert Stone, Damascus Gate revolves around journalist Christopher Lucas, who stumbles upon an extremist plot to sabotage peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians in Jerusalem. The Damascus gate of the title, is part of Jerusalem’s old city walls, which were originally built by Suleiman The Magnificent.

According to reports, the story delves deep into a world of fanatics, arms dealers, nightclub owners, former Communists and drug pushers, so there’s plenty of saucy material for filmmakers to work with here.

Eric Warren Singer, who collaborated with Roven on the soon-to-be-released Tom Tykwer-directed The International, will write the script for the Damascus Gate adaptation.
