Hannibal Pre-Production Map Artwork

Film Fetish has gotten hold of images for a pre-visualization map and title treatment for the upcoming Hannibal the Conqueror film. Vin Diesel stars as the Carthaginian general Hannibal Barca, who rode an elephant across the Alps to attack Rome in the 3rd Century B.C. Diesel’s production company, One Race Films, is also producing the epic, along with producing partner George Zakk. Revolution Studios is also on board. Revolution owns the film rights to the novel Hannibal by Ross Leckie.

The film is still in pre-production and is still being cast, but we do know that Yorick van Wageningen of the Netherlands has already been cast. Van Wageningen also appeared in the Chronicles of Riddick as the character The Guv.

This has been Vin Diesel’s dream project for years, and it seems he now has the power to get this film made. He has his own game production company, which produced the console version of Chronicles, which became more popular than the film itself.

Hannibal was a noteworthy historical figure that was as crafty a battlefield tactician as Braveheart protagonist William Wallace. After swearing to his warrior father an oath of hatred for the Romans, in his mid-20s Hannibal became a Carthage general commanding an army 100,000 strong. He unleashed those forces on Rome and its allies, conquering such countries as Spain before engineering a surprise attack against Rome by trekking his armies over the Alps.
