GI Film Festival 2009

The mission of the GI Film Festival is to honor American GIs through the medium of film. The Festival showcases indie films with military-related storylines or characters, or films exploring the general worldwide struggle for liberty and democracy.

Media coverage of participating films has been extensive and impressive, from Variety to The Washington Post to TV networks including the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, and the Pentagon Channel. Winning films from GIFF 2009 may be broadcast on the History Channel’s military channel, and all official selections will be promoted on the “GreatAmericans” website, which boasts 2.6 million subscribers. A true nod to the Festival and its important programming, GIFF 2007 premiere OPERATION HOMECOMING was nominated for an Academy Award, and THE LAST 600 METERS and BROTHERS AT WAR – both selections from the 2008 event – gained theatrical distribution with the prestigious Samuel Goldwyn Films.
