Festival du Nouveau Cinéma

The Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) is an annual independent film festival held in Montreal and features independent films from around the world. The 2016 event marked the 45th edition of The Festival du nouveau cinéma.

According to the film festival’s website, the Festival du nouveau cinéma is about the spirit of good company, revelry and fun. Every edition is a chance to get together and celebrate the shared passion for film around each new lineup. The eleven-day Festival is designed as a space devoted to discussions, meetings and sharing, where film fans can come together with artists and professionals to exchange ideas in an informal setting. Organizers believe that film isn’t something to be kept cloistered in an ivory tower. At the Festival du nouveau cinéma, organizers say there’s nothing more important than keeping the flame alive, together.

FNC is an Academy Award qualifying festival for short films. The event was founded in 1971 by Claude Chamberlan and Dimitri Eipidès as Festival international du cinéma en 16mm de Montréal (translated to Montreal International 16mm Film Festival), and has gone through several name changes before adopting its current name – Festival du nouveau cinéma – in 2004.
