California Theatre of the Performing Arts

The California Theatre of the Performing Arts was originally a part of the Fox Theatre chain. The venue opened in 1928 and, as of 2016, still houses its original Wurlitzer Style 216 pipe organ. It was also the site of the last performance by Will Rogers prior to his death in a 1935 plane crash.

During Hollywood’s early years, filmmakers test-screened their films at the California Theatre. Classics such as the original King Kong and The Wizard of Oz were first viewed by audiences at the theatre in the 1930s.

Created in the city of Riverside in 2001, the Theatrical Arts Foundation manages the historic California Theatre of the Performing Arts in San Bernardino. The organization supports a four-show Broadway Series as well as national concert tours, comedy, dance, multidisciplinary acts and television productions.
