The ToonSeum describes itself as a small boutique style museum that is dedicated to the comic and cartoon arts. There are on average more than 100 pieces of art exhibited at any given time, which rotate every few months. There are often exhibits and a limited number of activities for children.

The ToonSeum is an independent non-profit museum that is 90 percent volunteer run. It is one of the few completely independent arts venues in downtown Pittsburgh and one of only a handful of cartoon oriented museums in all of the United States.

A 2016 exhibit focused on the Marvel character Captain America and was called “Captain America: 75 Years of the Sentinel of Liberty.”

The facility is located on Liberty Avenue in Pittsburgh’s cultural district.
