Sylvester Stallone told Empire that he’s been circling the possibility of doing a remake of the 1974 cult classic revenge thriller Death Wish.

“I’m thinking about it… It’s a classic morality tale, where you take a civilized man and take away everything that matters to him so he becomes primitive again.”

Michael Winner (The Mechanic, Scorpio) directed the original Charles Bronson film, and featured Bronson as a New York City architect who becomes a vigilante killer, after his wife – played by Hope Lange – is murdered by street thugs (one of whom is a young Jeff Goldblum). The original Death Wish also starred Vincent Gardenia, Steven Keats, William Redfield, Stuart Margolin, Stephen Elliott, Kathleen Tolan, Jack Wallace and Fred J. Scollay.

The storyline from Death Wish has been done many times since, including four sequels to the original, as well as other similar films, like Jodie Foster’s 2007 film The Brave One.
