Steven Spielberg and Stephen King team to bring King’s supernatural thriller Under the Dome to small screen

Steven Spielberg and Stephen King are teaming up to develop a limited series based on King’s recently released supernatural thriller Under the Dome, according to a report by Variety. DreamWorks TV has optioned the book and is looking to set it up as an event series, most likely for a cable net.

DreamWorks’ Stacey Snider was key in bringing the project to the company.

Under the Dome revolves around the drama that unfolds after an invisible force field suddenly descends on a small vacation town in Maine, causing locals to fight for survival, as they end up in warring factions led by enigmatic characters.

According to the report, Spielberg and King previously worked together on a screen adaptation of King’s 1984 novel The Talisman, on which Spielberg has had the option for more than 20 years. The Talisman has been developed as a feature, and came close to being done as a mini-series for TNT a few years ago until being scraped for budgetary concerns.
