1966 – The first Best Buy store opened in St. Paul, Minnesota, on this date in 1966, under the brand name Sound of Music. The retailer’s name was changed to Best Buy in 1983.

1958 – Groundbreaking took place for what is today called the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. The original architects were McKim, Mead and White, who were succeeded in 1961 by Steinman, Cain and White.
