Friends of the Loew’s is a non-profit group that essentially rescued the landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre from demolition in the 1990’s. The organization currently leases the theater from the City of Jersey City, with a mission that includes arts and entertainment for residents of Hudson County and the surrounding region.
From October through June, the organization runs a monthly screening series that includes revivals of classic American films in many genres.
I’ve watched numerous action film classics at the Loew’s Jersey, including a Roger Moore as James Bond film series, science fiction classics such as John Carpenter’s The Thing, James Cameron’s Terminator, Lana & Lilly Wachowski’s The Matrix, and Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner.
The Loew’s Jersey will screen three cult classic films centered around various forms of transportation this weekend.
