Geek Pride Day

Geek Pride Day is an annual celebration of geek culture around the world. It is celebrated annually on May 25. Geek Pride Day originated in Spain in 2006 and was originally called “Día del orgullo friki” and quickly spread around the world via the Internet. Spanish blogger Germán Martínez, known online as señor Buebo, organized the first celebration and drew attention from mainstream media. The largest event at that time, took place in Madrid, Spain, where 300 “geeks” showed their pride, along with a human Pac-Man. A manifesto was created which included a list of the basic rights and responsibilities.

In 2008, Geek Pride Day was officially celebrated in America, where it was heralded with the launch of the Geek Pride Day website at orgullofriki.com.
