Variety reports that Eddie Murphy will star in the film Johnny Blaze, an action comedy that DreamWorks and Imagine have contracted with Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle screenwriters Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg to pen. Brian Grazer will produce the movie.

In the movie, Murphy would play an old-school rapper who retires and becomes a private eye who solves crimes within the hip-hop world.

Murphy is currently in production on Daddy Day Camp, in which frazzled dad Charlie Hinton is put in charge of a kids’ day camp. He is also going to lend his voice to Shrek 3, and has a romantic comedy that is being sold as a re-imagining of Romeo and Juliet, as told from the point-of-view of the young lovers’ parents. That project is still untitled.
