Donnie Darko creator returns with Southland Tales

Richard Kelly, the man behind the cult horror favorite Donnie Darko, returns to the helm with the quirky Southland Tales. The film is set in a futuristic landscape of Los Angeles on July 4, 2008, as it stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster. After a nuclear attack wipes out part of Texas in 2005, America is a virtual police state, with the government taking control of nearly every part of people’s lives, supposedly for their own good. In the midst of the chaos are central characters Boxer Santaros (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), an action star who’s stricken with amnesia, whose trying to maintain his identity, Krysta Now (Sarah Michelle Gellar), an adult film star developing a reality television show, offering her views on politics, contemporary culture, and teenage sex, and Ronald Taverner (Seann William Scott), a police officer who holds the key to a vast federal conspiracy, whose identity has mysteriously split in two.

The sprawling cast also includes Ling Bai, John Larroquette, Jon Lovitz, Mandy Moore, Janeane Garofalo, Christopher Lambert, Cheri Oteri, Miranda Richardson, Kevin Smith, and Justin Timberlake (who also provides the voice-over duties).
