Robert Rodriguez discusses the Predators prequel comics |

Robert Rodriguez recently sat down exclusively with MTV to discuss the trio of Dark Horse Comics-published Predators comics that provide a prequel, adaptation and sequel to the upcoming film he directed.

Rodriguez was directly involved in the creation of the Predators comics, and discussed his involvement, and why Predator aliens are so interesting to him.

“I love comics, and I’ve known Dark Horse and [Dark Horse publisher] Mike Richardson since my ‘Desperado’ days, when we had an office next to each other,” said Rodriguez of how the Predators comics came about. “I just knew there was room to expand on these characters, and I appreciate their history with the films and the comics.”

“Dark Horse has kept Predators out there for a long time, so I thought their part in the movie should be more significant than just copying the screenplay, and they didn’t disappoint,” Rodriguez added.

According to the filmmaker, the screenplay for the Predators movie was finished just before the comics deal was solidified, so everything really fast, with much of what he wanted to see in the comics coming in a single phone call.

Predators the movie , which is being directed by Nimród Antal (Kontroll, Armored), hits theaters on July 9, 2010. The film stars Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, Laurence Fishburne, Walton Goggins, Alice Braga, Derek Mears, Brian Steele, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali and Oleg Taktarov.
