The full trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine was released this morning exclusively to MySpace. No surprise, since Fox, who’s releasing the film, owns MySpace. Doesn’t really matter where the trailer was released. What matters is how good this film looks. What matters is that next year will see the release of some action-packed, popcorn-munching comic adaptations.

The revealing trailer gives us glimpses of Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth, Will i Am as John Wraith, Dominic Monaghan as Beak, Kevin Durand as The Blob and of course Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Gavin Hood, who directed the critically acclaimed CIA thriller Rendition and the South Africa crime drama Tsotsi, directs Wolverine, from a script by David Benioff (25th Hour, Troy, The Kite Runner). These choices make it clear that Hollywood is at least beginning to understand that these films need folks who understand character development. X-Men Origins: Wolverine crashes into theaters on May 1, 2009.

Film Fetish Trivia: Writer David Benioff is currently writing an upcoming TV series called Game of Thrones, an adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” in which kings, queens, knights and renegades of seven noble families, use swords and magic to battle for the throne of the mythical land of Westeros.
