Nobel Son is a strangely comic thriller revolving around Barkley Michaelson (played by Bryan Greenberg), who is struggling to finish his Ph.D. thesis when his father Eli Michaelson (Alan Rickman), wins the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. But Eli’s past begin to collide with the present, When Barkley is kidnapped on the eve of his father accepting the prize, and Eli refuses to pay the ransom demand made by Thaddeus James (Shawn Hatosy, who played the low-life son of William H. Macy in the Wayne Kramer gambling gem The Cooler). That starts the tale of family dysfunction, lust, betrayal and revenge.

Nobel Son features an all-star ensemble cast including Alan Rickman, Bryan Greenberg, Shawn Hatosy, Mary Steenburgen, Eliza Dushku, Bill Pullman, Ted Danson, Danny DeVito, Ernie Hudson, Tracey Walter and Lindy Booth. It was directed by Randall Miller (Marilyn Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing & Charm School), who actually helmed this film before the indie Bottle Shock, which also stars Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman.
