Georgia offering record tax credits to filmmakers

According to a report I read on Variety, Georgia is looking to boost its position as a major film production locale with the 2008 Entertainment Industry Investment Act, signed by Governor Sonny Perdue last month. The governor said, at a ceremony surrounding the event:

We know that our excellent talent base and outstanding locations make Georgia a very desirable place to film…This legislation puts in place the economic cornerstone that will encourage producers to convert that desire into action.

The new incentive offers a 20% tax credit with a $500,000 annual minimum expenditure, and also applies to videogame production, in addition to film, TV, commercials and music videos. The state is offering an additional 10% tax credit to productions that include an animated Georgia promotional logo within the finished product.
