Guy Pearce eyeing Guillermo Del Toro-produced ‘Dark’ horror remake

Guy Pearce is negotiating and Bailee Madison is already attached to star alongside Katie Holmes in Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Miramax’s supernatural thriller being directed by Guillermo del Toro protege Troy Nixey, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Del Toro, who co-wrote the script with Matthew Robbins (Mimic), will produce the new film along with Mark Johnson.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark is a remake of a 1973 ABC telefilm, involving a very scary Victorian mansion inhabited with demonic creatures. The original was directed by John Newland, and starred Kim Darby, Jim Hutton, Barbara Anderson, William Demarest, Pedro Armendáriz Jr., Lesley Woods, Robert Cleaves, Sterling Swanson and Joel Lawrence.

The remake is set to begin production next month in Melbourne, Australia.
