Roger Corman, SFX legend Rick Baker and more to appear at American Cinematheque salute to character actor Dick Miller

The name may not ring a bell, but the face surely will – Cult Cinema Icon Dick Miller is one of Hollywood’s favorite character actors. Born on Christmas Day, 1928, in the Bronx, Miller came to California with hopes of becoming a writer and wound up as an actor, appearing in more than 175 films starting in 1955. As one of the busiest members of Roger Corman’s stock company, Miller made an indelible impression as homicidal sculptor Walter Paisley in A Bucket of Blood and as the flower-eating Burson Fouch in the original The Little Shop of Horrors.

Dick Miller’s scene-stealing skills did not go unnoticed by other directors. Corman alumnus James Cameron cast Miller in The Terminator, and Joe Dante has made it a point to use the actor in nearly all of his films; Miller’s supporting performance in Dante’s Gremlins earned a Saturn Award nomination. Corman and Dante are just a few of the screen luminaries who sing the actor’s praises in That Guy Dick Miller. The new documentary traces his still-ongoing career, from its beginnings in New York to today, using interviews, animated segments and rare film clips.

The film screening series also includes Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight, and War of the Satellites.

There will also be a number of appearances during the series, including: Director Elijah Drenner and Producer Lainie Miller during the Los Angeles premiere of the documentary That Guy Dick Miller; Dick Miller himself, Director Ernest R. Dickerson (currently one of the lead directors of AMC’s The Walking Dead); and Visual Effects Supervisor Rick Baker (who went on the work on films such as Hellboy and Men in Black) will all make appearances during Saturday’s screenings of Gremlins, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, and Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight; and on Sunday, Dick Miller returns to the Egyptian Theatre with fellow Cult Cinema Icon Roger Corman for screenings of War of the Satellites and A Bucket of Blood.

All events take place at the Egyptian Theatre, located at 6712 Hollywood Blvd., in Los Angeles, California.
