Iron Man 2 opens in IMAX this week internationally and for two weeks in the big format starting next week in U.S.

Good luck getting tickets for Iron Man 2 in IMAX. IMAX Corp., Marvel and Paramount Pictures today announced that Iron Man 2, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey, Jr., will open for a special limited two-week engagement in 182 IMAX theatres in the U.S. on May 7th, and in 68 IMAX theatres internationally, with 51 of those runs opening this weekend.

“The buzz surrounding Iron Man 2 is continuing to grow rapidly, and the IMAX release is certainly contributing to it by driving excitement and anticipation to experience the film in the best possible way,” said Tim Connors of Marvel Studios. “We’re very happy that the IMAX release is available to moviegoers worldwide, and we’re looking forward to starting with international runs this weekend.”

Based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero, Iron Man 2 continues the story of the 2008 summer box office hit Iron Man, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Studios. The first film in the franchise has grossed over a half billion dollars worldwide.

Iron Man 2 also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, John Slattery, Garry Shandling, Paul Bettany, Kate Mara, Leslie Bibb, Philippe Bergeron, James Bethea, Michael Bruno, Katie Clark, Luminita Docan, François Duhamel, Tim Guinee, Eric L.
