Warner Brothers and Hollywood Gang Productions have attached cult favorite Shoot ‘Em Up writer and director Michael Davis to direct a remake of the cult 1981 Sean Connery sci-fi drug-fueled thriller Outland, Variety reports. Writer Chad St. John (The Days Before) will pen the new project.

The original film, which was directed by Peter Hyams (Timecop, Narrow Margin, End of Days) follows a police marshal stationed at a remote mining colony on one of Jupiter’s moons, where he uncovers a murderous drug-smuggling conspiracy that threatens the entire Outland with collapse.

According to Davis, the plan is to stay true to the thematic heart of the original film, while expanding on the space frontier concept.
