More about Dark Rising
Fans of Army of Darkness, My Name Is Bruce and Bubba Ho-Tep are certain to revel in Dark Rising, a campy new horror flick tailor-made for cult status. What do you get when you cross a broken heart, a camping trip, a battle axe, a bikini-clad demon and a lesbian ex-fiancée? That’s right – the perfect ingredients for this summer’s newest cult-horror comedy, new on DVD from E1 Entertainment. With six Canadian Comedy Awards nominations, including a “Best Male Performance” nod to WWE and TNA Wrestling star Jason “Christian Cage” Reso for his feature film acting debut, Dark Rising promises a gut-busting ride you’ll not soon forget.
Jason Parks’ (Cannon) life goes from bad to worse as a series of supernatural events turn his dream of reconciliation with ex-fiancée jasmine (vanessa james) into a portal seeking, demon hunting nightmare. With a desperate attempt to save his fizzled-out relationship, jason orchestrates a camping trip with the help of his best friends Ricky (Reso), Marlene (Haley Shannon) and Renee (Julia Schneider). Each with their own agenda, they convince Jasmine to join them for a weekend of fun in the sun. Unbeknownst to the group, Renee’s been having reoccurring nightmares of Summer Vale, a little girl that disappeared in town over twenty years ago, and decides to use the getaway to contact her spirit. The fun and games quickly turn to life and death when Renee’s “hocus pocus” ritual works and the little lost girl bursts onto the scene. She’s all grown up, she’s armed with a battle axe – and she’s not alone.
The Dark Rising DVD bonus features include a behind-the-scenes featurette, audio commentary with writer/director Andrew Cymek and cast, a wrestling match between “Christian Cage” and rhino, deleted scenes and photo gallery. In addition, the DVD features English subtitles.
Writer and Director: Andrew Cymek
Cast: Landy Cannon, Brigitte Kingsley, Julia Schneider, Jason Reso, Vanessa James, Haley Shannon, Peter Nelson, Taylor Barber, Jack Newman, Lara Fenton
DVD Release Date: August 11, 2009
